: New wheels (Dymag)
andygoswell 12-12-2003, 10:55 AM I am the Managing Director & CEO of Dymag, a UK company specialising in the design & manufacture of high performance wheels (30 years experience). As you may have heard, we are currently designing and tooling a new range of Carbon Fibre wheels specifically for the V-Rod, and would welcome any input from owners as to their preferences.
I have seen some comments that have already been posted and those views are being given the due consideration they deserve. Any additional feedback that enables us to produce the best possible product for this model, would be greatly appeciated.
To recap, we are currently working on a 3-spoke and a 5-spoke design, based on our existing magnesium and Carbon Fibre ranges. Wheels will be available in the standard Carbon finish or with a "chrome effect" coating. Product launch will be around March 2004, and retail pricing is anticipated to be in the $3,000/set region. Wheels will be fully tested to internationally recognised standards for road use, and will be produced to accept standard parts. Initially they will be available in the stock sizes plus a wider rear option to take a 240mm tyre. Further sizes/styles will be added to suit demand.
Weight is likely to be around 8kg/set as oppossed to 19kg/set for the standard wheels and unlike alternative metal wheel options, they will not corrode or deteriorate.
Please note that we are experiencing technical difficulties with our current website (www.dymag.com) , but a brand new site will be launched in the new year.
All comments or suggestions, good or bad, are very welcome.
Regards
Andy Goswell
mjw930 12-12-2003, 02:28 PM Andy,
Welcome to the V-Rodforums. Thank you for your post, it's good to see a company actively soliciting feedback before they release a product or product line. As you will find, we have quite a diverse crowd here who aren't afraid to "tell it like it is".
Please keep us informed along the way and feel free to join into whatever discussions you find interesting but please remember, this is a member supported site. Vendor participation is encouraged and new product updates are always welcome but soliciting is not allowed.
Please feel free to contact the administrators of this site with any questions.
PS. I moved this thread to the "Products" section where it will get more visibility.
Welcome,
Mark
Harleyvrodguy 12-13-2003, 08:53 PM Andy, Thanks for you guys picking up the ball...............I am waiting for a set of 3 spoke carbon fiber rims!
rodman 12-16-2003, 07:23 AM Andy,
Welcome! Great to be speaking to you on he Forum. I'm looking forward to getting a set of Carbon look wheels! I think that your products will enhance the performance of the V-Rod - not just the style.
Two Questions!
1) Is it possible for you to post a picture of the 3 spoke Carbon wheels? The image on the website is pretty small.
2) Being able to reuse the stock brakes and pulley is a great idea. However I would really like to be able to add custom components later. Will that be an option?

andygoswell 12-16-2003, 09:59 AM Rodman,
1) Yes i can post a picture of the exisiting 3-spoke Carbon wheels, but we are updating the style slightly to meet the V-Rod requirements. Consequently, i would rather wait and post a rendered image of the new wheel once the finite element analysis is complete.
2) Custom components will be added as optional extras once the wheel range is complete.

eduarprmd 12-19-2003, 07:37 AM Welcome! I'm in!
So will shave off about 24 lbs (11kg=24.2lbs) unsprung weight, cool. If you follow V-Rods you'll know this is a hot topic.
Bear with me. An even hotter a topic is discussing exhaust. Most seem like letting go of the stock exhaust look is a very difficult thing to do and I agree, thus something called the V-Mod exhaust. They are stock units without inner baffle, look beautiful, sound very cool, and perform excellent.
Now I have the same particular thing with the wheels (much more important as far as looks for me than exhaust). I really do not find it problematic in windy situations as some complains posted here. Take this as a vote favoring the solid wheel stock appearance with "chrome effect" coating. If made I'd buy, pick your reasonable price even if it saves only 10lbs.:2cents
Of course, what is being proposed as planned looks to be wicked cool:diablo:  . I'd favor the 5 spoke myself. Get it done, post some pics, I'm very interested.
BUT if you could make a set of what I'm looking for, even if it takes you out of the way to do it, quote me a price, however unreasonable it may seem, and we will negotiate from there. They have to be lighter and easier to clean. I'm a lazy pig with a smile!
andygoswell 12-19-2003, 08:40 AM Thanks for the input. I will check with our design team regarding adding a solid wheel option. Have a great Christmas & New Year.
Regards
Andy
rodman 12-19-2003, 10:09 AM Hi Guys,
Andy sent me some pics! (wheel pics:diablo: )
- looks like they came from the CAD design package...
- I think the center is a hub adapter for the Harley style V-rod brakes
Very cool, check'em!
Andy please correct me if the above is incorrect.

rodman 12-19-2003, 10:10 AM But wait there is more!
rodman 12-19-2003, 10:11 AM And for you classic 3 spoke people (like me for instance)

Thanks, guys!!!!!
rodman 12-19-2003, 12:39 PM Kim,
Check out the other dymag thread in the product forum... there is a Q and A about the wheels and a bunch more discussion.
I'm going to go with the Dymag wheels - these look like streetable race technology.

rodman 12-19-2003, 02:27 PM posted the pics on the v-twin forum as well....
Harleyvrodguy 12-19-2003, 04:16 PM now were talking baby! :460::460::460::460::460::460;
Vinny 12-19-2003, 08:11 PM I like the the lighter colored 5-spoke wheel.Would have to be in a satin finish:thumb ,not chrome:tmbsdown .Or even just plain o' CF:).The v-rod would look even more BADA$$:diablo:
Vrod-tlam 12-19-2003, 08:58 PM Love the 5 spoke!!! :icon_mrgr I wonder how much.....
mjw930 12-19-2003, 09:25 PM I wonder how much.....

andygoswell 12-22-2003, 08:29 AM Hi Guys,
The pictures are indeed rendered images from our CAD package. Have a great Chrsitmas and New Year everyone. I will be out of the loop until the 5th January.
Regards
Andy
eduarprmd 12-23-2003, 01:21 AM But, but, but! Leaving? After those pics? Man!!!
No, really, when you come back, make some. If you don't make the plate thing I want I may get the chrome 5 spoke. Have to see some pics. Rodman will get em first I'll bet. But on 3 spoke carbons not what I'm looking for right now. When installed post some pics, maybe your choice IS the best look after all (eurorod comes to mind, what a beautiful bike).

Super Kaz 01-04-2004, 08:21 PM Welcome Kevin.Go to the "New to the V-rod Community "and Intro your self and Tell everyone about you and your Racing!
kspz3 01-05-2004, 07:45 PM Hey Kaz,
Thanks for getting me set-up. I will have to try the community thing - I saw that you took your bike out on the street - running kinda on the rough side with the struts still on :) - I need to have a discussion on the TT pipes - although there may be an existing thread. This looks like a great forum. Thanks again for the help.
Kevin
kspz3 01-06-2004, 07:29 PM Andy,
I like the weight, the chrome option but the price takes my breath away. I was not able to find wheels that I felt justified the cost - even though I have a real desire to reduce weight for racing - but on my current setup I am trying to maintain a somewhat show appearance. (bike is frequently on display or at shows for sponsors' publicity activities) I landed up chroming mine. I did the evaluation again this winter as I speced next years setup and still couldn't find anything that did it for me - therefore I am planning to race with the stock chromed ones again this season. I would like to see what they look like on the bike also, as I am not perfectly settled with the looks - a bit too plain or static or something - maybe it is the rendering. It is hard to describe - but you asked for feedback so I am doing my best to give it to you straight up. I also think that maintaining the cush drive is important. I think that I would like a black chrome option.
Kevin
Derek 01-06-2004, 08:22 PM Nice wheels.....but the price!!!! No offence, I realise the man. costs are great but that is a lot of dough. Sure they are light and all but with the amount of wheel producers out there with much lower prices , sure makes it hard for us to commit to 3 g's a set. Now, should you decide a buy one get one free for the forum members........Just my .02
Derek
polizzio 01-06-2004, 11:20 PM I want a set of the 5 spoke wheels. Thats approximately a 22lb unsprung weight reduction, and good lookin too. Andy, how about doing a v-rod forums group buy, at a reduced package price?
Harleyvrodguy 01-07-2004, 01:07 AM I second that motion polizzio!!! :broke :rofl3:
roman 01-09-2004, 10:35 PM I am in for a set :)
polizzio 01-10-2004, 08:31 AM Hey Andy,
Where you at? Give us a progress report on the wheels, such as when you expect them to be available. And your thoughts on a forum group purchase/discount, I'm sure we could muster up 10 guys ready to buy pretty easily.......

eduarprmd 02-22-2004, 11:18 AM May or June but still can't wait saving 11kg to compensate for my beer belly.
Harleyvrodguy 02-22-2004, 01:33 PM Yo Andy, where art thou?
polizzio 02-22-2004, 07:05 PM I sent Andy an email bout a month ago and he said yes they will employ the cush drive, should be available in May. So we wait.....
eduarprmd 06-10-2004, 09:43 AM JUNE!
And I still think these are one of the few mods left for my V.
ANDYYYYYYYY!
mr_vrodder 06-10-2004, 10:16 AM I was hoping to see them if they ever get done. They are about 15 miles away from me.
