: Another F-14 Fly By - Between Ships
bbmach 11-24-2004, 12:19 AM Here is another F-14. It's so low to the water, it ripples it! Everyone on the ship was looking in the other direction, watching another F-14, when this one comes through...
It's so low, you're looking down on it from the deck!

MarkSW 11-24-2004, 12:27 AM That's just too cool- You don't hear it till it's almost past the camera. Nice Flick!! ;)

SWEET!!!!!!!!!!! :popcorn :plause: :plause:
It really is amazing that even after 30 years, the F-14 Tomcat is still the cream of the crop for fighter jets. Way ahead of its time!
Thanks for the vid bbmach. Really enjoyed it!
Redbullssg 11-24-2004, 08:55 AM What's he droppin? Just before he gets to the ships he drops three of what ever it is...

You might be seeing the condensation from the wings being blown around.
Not sure.
Men, I believe he is dropping flares just for the heck of it..... Awesome.....
revolution02 11-24-2004, 09:53 AM What were tyhey chalfs or flairs. That is awsum!!!!!! Tax money at work!
Definitely awesome! Impressive even on video...
Flyin_Freddie 11-24-2004, 05:38 PM Reckon he's got V-modded exhausts and flowed heads...? :D
Cheatin 11-24-2004, 05:45 PM Now let's see him do it inverted!!!
Michael333 11-24-2004, 06:37 PM He's poppin' flares -- you can see them illuminating from the burn. Chaff would disperse too fast to be seen like that.

I think Crash, or a Hornet/Eagle pilot would dispute that. The F-14D has been a big improvement, but for the longest time it was pretty much considered a "pig" in the air-to-air or "dog-fight" arena.

Wouldn't be the first time someone disagreed with me.
I saw a documentary on the F-14 just the other day. The features it has are amazing and the "cream of the crop" I used is the opinion of the top Air Force top brass.
The F-14 Tomcat can target and shoot down an adversary over a 100 miles away and destroy it before the other plane even knows the F-14 was there all while dropping a laser guided bomb on some insurgents or other targets capturing it on live streaming video for the world to see and at the very same time. Being able to target mutiple bogees (spelling?) at the same time is one of it's more respected features..
It has five different types of radar, and a more diversified weapons capability then any other fighter jet. It can fly Mach 2.4 and has a large fuel capacity to keep it airborn accomplishing several missions without needing to refuel in air or return to base. Those are just a small few of its features that without a doubt make it no pig.
Other then a few software upgrades over the years it's close to as it was when introduced 30 years ago. It's one bad ass plane yet so is the Hornet, Stealth and even the warthog!
Each plane is special in its own way. The F-14 is special because of its versatility.
When you see all of our planes at air shows, you feel even more proud to be an american and whether a pilot is flying an F-14, a chopper or a cargo plane or even a blimp, their duty is equally important and respected.
God Bless The USA!!!
Michael333 11-24-2004, 09:16 PM Jeeze Coolbreeze..... I've got about 4000 hours in Marine Fighters..... You see a TV program on cable and you're a dang expert. I'm sure if you saw tv programs on other "Class IV" Fighter/Attack aircraft you would be equally impressed. Give me a friggin break..... It doesn't have five different radars.... it's max stand off range isn't 100 miles..... that heavy fuel loading takes away from it's manueverabilty.... it's as big as a barndoor and can be sighted at 10 miles..... no where can it perform operationally at 2.4 mach...... Afghanistan was the first time that it dropped bombs in war -- prior to that it was a point defense fighter protecting the carrier (they had problems with the railings when carrying bombs -- subsequent avionics and airframe changes were required for the "air-to-mud" mode ) and prior to the "D" model it was considered a pig by pilots that flew it. I know -- I had friends that flew them.

:bs: Sorry, but you really don't know what you're talking about.
pathetic_loser 11-24-2004, 10:46 PM Had a couple of F14's buzz me once on top of Mt. Rainier in Washington State. They came screaming up the flank of the Mt., hugging the terrain, the lead inverted as he buzzed the summit (50 feet off the ground, you could see the snorkle and face mask), then they both spirled verticle up in to the clouds.
Pig or not, it was quite impressive from my point of view.

HOLY FRIGGEN CRAP MAN, that was an uncalled for.
Someone posts a cool vid.
I compliment it and share what I learned from a documentary and then you tell me I'm not the expert I NEVER CLAIMED TO BE?
If you disagree with the so called facts I shared and believe they're wrong, why shoot the messenger? Wouldn't we all be better served by you sharing some facts you know. Maybe inquiring of the show? Getting some facts yourself and setting the record straight in a professional way if you believe they are inaccurate and need corrected?
What's up with that Michael?
You wrote: "It doesn't have five different radars"
The documentary explained that it did. It explained two varieties of one type and three of another.
You wrote: "it's max stand off range isn't 100 miles"
The documentary explained it was and I passed on the information. I guess that too in your eyes makes me a bad guy huh?
You wrote: "that heavy fuel loading takes away from it's manueverabilty"
I don't recall saying the F-14 was a great manueverable fighter. But you would think that I did by reading your comments.
You wrote "no where can it perform operationally at 2.4 mach"
I don't believe I said that either Michael. I said it has a top speed of 2.4 mach.
I wrote that it's considered the best fighter jet because it's such a vesatile fighter. I never wrote it could out perform every other fighter did I?
If your pissed off about something, don't fabricate and minipulate my words to make a point. Doing that is the BS of this thread.
Further, I'm not gonna take a thread started as a treat for the forum and turn it into a spectacle. You want to discuss it further, lets take it into a PM or email.
Happy Holidays!
P.S. I tracked down the show I saw. It was on the History channel if you want to look for it and set any of their stated facts you believe are false straight.
Here's the link to a DVD that gives a little insight into the documentary.

UPSMAN 11-25-2004, 01:29 AM I look at all the vids on the site , but the recent airplane vids are a no go, just comes up as a blank screen with that little 3 color "picture" square in the upper left corner?
As far as Fighters are involved you guys are both wrong. There is another fighter that is less known than all the others that will kick the Sh** out of these you are discussing! Called the CLL ( Christina Lynn Lewis) code named W.I.F.E. You come in at midnight on your anniversary , drunk, with four of your buddies , drunk, throw a bunch of dead squirrels on the dining room table and yell "hey! After you clean these squirrel's , fix us breakfast - ( insert crude name here)!" CLL will kick the *hit out of the tomcat, the hell cat, the big Kat, the fat cat, as a matter of fact you probably will not experience any cat for quite some time! he he he sorry, looked like we needed some comic relief, even as feeble as the comedy was . Happy Thanksgving All !
Rob (I hope the W.I.F.E. doesnt read this, as I already fly solo enough as it is) Lewis

Michael333 11-25-2004, 11:34 AM Coolbreeze, I wrote the post because yours is inaccurate for the most part and you really started preaching to me -- and based on what? I'm not saying the documentary was wrong (that was Naval top brass extolling the 14's virtues by the way, not Air Force) but your read on different items is incorrect or your memory is off. (5 radars.... try "track-while-scan" and different radar modes.)
And if you really didn't want to turn this into a "spectacle" why write your last post.
Let's move just move on.
