I have an 06 R that is really starting to give me a sore tailbone etc after 75 miles or so . I have tried a sundowner but it moved me too far forward and was wondering if any of you have done a gel insert installation on the stock seat inc pillion . I dont have a fortune to spend but need something that works.

PS I weigh around 200 lbs

Cheers

I slid a jumbo sized gel pad into my stocker, the sore butt is no more, even after a full day of riding!! pics are in my streetfighter build-up thread

hey moto !

try Smartrrr he does a lot of work in the UK and also Melboy both can be found on the net, you post your seat to them and they do a gel insert for around £60-£80 , the gel pad is about £30/40 just to buy, both of these have done seats for me, one use's a medical gel , and the other a "gelastic" mesh type stuff.

the only thing i would say is , for me the gel insert never worked on my DX unless you want to sit higher ? (then it would) the electric's hump meant that the gel pack could not lay flat and made it harder !

i'm sure a lot will say they have had there gel inserts and think there great , and i'm sure they are but you will sit higher to combat the "hump" in the seat and for me this was too high (6ft 4in)

yeah the ebay purchase is Lynne who is the medical grade supplier to SmartRRR etc... as there is only one place to get this stuff from, and Lynne covers them and sells them as add on's , instead of inserting them into the seat i had mine inserted and as i say unless you build up the foam so that the gel insert can sit flat on top of the DX hump it will not work, it becomes harder !

but if your ok with sitting higher (by some way) then it should work fine, i was there when the seat was taken apart and shown the issues first hand by the seat guy, i even got the gel insert myself from Lynne (without the cover) but our seat pan's are not flat and just where your tailbone sits is the bloody hump !
