: V-Mod saddlebag supports
Greg687 12-09-2003, 10:38 AM Just wanted to share with the group.... I just installed my V-mod saddlebag supports, and am very happy. For a total of $230 (Saddleman bags + supports) I have a functional, good looking set of saddle bags, and saved quite a bit over the currently available options for the V-ROd. Took about 15 minutes to install, instructions were clear, and the parts look top quality. Will try to get some pics for you all as well.
Greg
Lookin forward to the pics, Greg!

Z16monte 12-09-2003, 11:46 AM How easy do they come off if you want to go bagless?
Greg687 12-09-2003, 12:24 PM Z16monte,
The supports mount using a special nut that replaces the two under the aluminum fender. I suppose you could take the supports off in about 10 minutes or so with practice, but I actually think they look good. Besides, since I first put the throw-overs on, I have never taken them off. Just too darned convenient. Attached is a pic from v-mod showing how they look without the bags. As soon as I get home I will take some pics. IMO I think this is the best of options out there, because the HD and Corbis stuff is just too
:2cents :2cents
I have other things I can do with that much money.
morey000 12-09-2003, 04:28 PM Greg687,
You'll need up update your tag line from "'03 stock, stock, stock" to " '03 stock, stock, bags'.
Welcome to the world of storage space. I've always found that having bags is the difference between getting to ride the bike, and having to take the car.

thanks Morey. good point on the storage space. Been out several times and always have what I need. and how many of my riding buddies have asked me to carry stuff for them? a bunch. I hope to get the pic up soon... I think they look good.

o2man98 12-09-2003, 05:19 PM Is there anything that will scratch the paint when the bags are attached?
Ken
Greg687 12-09-2003, 05:25 PM That depends... I am using standard throw-overs, with that strap that goes over the fender, and under the passenger seat. I have the fender adapter, which keeps the strap from contacting anything, and I suppose you could use them like I have seen them, with the strap OVER the passenger seat. Without either of these, then the strap would contact the fender skin, and would act much like a bra does on a car... if you dont keep it clean, it could build up dirt and scratch. By the way, mine is anodized, and I feel this is a more durable finish than the paint.

V-Fred 12-09-2003, 05:40 PM greg687: can you post a picture of your bags mounted? Thanks.
Fred
Greg687 12-09-2003, 05:47 PM I will try to take some tonight, and get them posted tomorrow.
Hey Greg, any news on the photos?
It's driving me mad waiting to see your setup, as i want the same thing ASAP!!!
Best wishes.
Ken.
hammerhead180 12-13-2003, 08:40 AM You can put a thin sheet of black neoprene on the bottom of the bag strap to soften the touch on the fender.
I just installed the mini-back support on the stock passenger seat. It came with a piece that goes between the chrome base plate and fender. It pads it pretty well.

Greg687 12-15-2003, 09:37 AM Sorry for the delays. Digital cam problems. Have a nice camera hera at work I am going to borrow. Thanks for your patience.
Greg
Thanks Greg.
My main concern is ID ing decent bags to use. There is bugger all here in Townsville, so I'm hoping you fellas find some nice bags you can put photos of up on the list. I'm leaning toward the slant style in the Ameritec (?) type fake leather.
I wasn't that impressed with the photo that Chopper Steve has on his site of the bags he uses, how ever will probably purchase the support from him.
Support those who support us!
Best wishes everyone.
Ken.
