: Saddlemen Seat for Increased Leg Room?
Billydj 04-30-2009, 10:32 AM Lo all...been a while since I've been on here!
I got a Sundowner and it pulls me too much up front and I'm 6'3" with a 32"+ inseam. I wanna ride with legs straight out. I'm looking for a low profile but yet very comfortable seat. Does this exist? It seems I missed the boat on the CFRs...bummer!
I don't like the bulky look of the TallBoy or the Sundowner (but boy, is the Sundowner comfortable!).
I either keep the Sundowner and buy V-Mods extended controls ($429 is nuts!) or I do a low profile seat that is gonna keep me low and extend my leg reach. A low profile seat would look much better...especially with my pipes but I'm scared of sacrificing comfort.
What ya'll think? Saddlemen comfortable? Will it give me more leg room? Any others you suggest?
Thanks!

been dealing with this issue for months now !
i havea 34 inside leg and wanted the Ness 3in extended controls but it seems that them and company's that have siad they will machine these "have not in months so far ?"
in the end i got the V-mod 2 inch ones and fitted them myself , they are bloody good and machined very well , it allows you to adjust both lever's
(on the DX you cannot adjust the rear brake lever but with these you can !)
I noticed you have "A" ?
All i can say on the VRSCDX , you cannot seat further back and low as once you open the seat you will notice a box which has all the electronics inside and the seat it's self has a "ledge"
i would check yours to see if it has this ledge as if it has you cannot seat further back unless you raise the profile of the seat so that in affect you are seating on the top of the ledge
Hence why the tallboy seat is so bulky and seat you higher, the sundowner etc.. seat you forward as they have padded out the seat area and in front of the "ledge"
I had some faom taken out of the back of my DX seat but , it made for uncomfortable ride due to the ledge, gone back to a stock DX seat and its like a sofa again !
would recommend the V-mod controls thou love mine !
Billydj 04-30-2009, 01:45 PM Yes, I have an "A". I think we all have the infamous ledge. I agree on the V-Mods but sure would like a comfortable low profile seat as well! Probably safer to do the V-Mods then demo various seats at Bike Week in Myrtle Beach next month. Hmmmm...now there's a thought! Damn I'm smart!
Thanks!

yeah good idea !
but i can't see any seat solveing the problem ? as to sit further back you "have" to seat ontop of the ledge.
there's so little foam over this ledge now that no matter how you arrange the seat you will be higher up than stock.
the only other way is to completely relocate your electric's which a few on here have done , and then fitted a flat style low profil seat that moulds into the bike , as oppossed to us sitting on it due to the ledge !
crap design for a custom style bike !:chair:
Billydj 04-30-2009, 05:35 PM I ordered my V-Mods today. Really, really looking forward to getting them then I gotta adjust my shift/brake pedals.
I agree on the seat issue...but worth a try!
Thanks!

Billydj 04-30-2009, 05:38 PM Check out Max's ride in the Gallery with the CFR seat...what did he do to make that seat fit?

FLEX400 05-01-2009, 07:13 AM I've got the saddlemanprofiler seat and yes it doe's sit you back about 1in and as for comfort it is better than stock but I still get a numb ass after about an hour or so.
FLEX
On the stock Dx seat you sit an about 3/4 inch in front of the ledge with your "bum" slightly lower than the ledge so you sit in it like a bucket.
So if the saddleman seat is stock underneath with the electric's pod , then you must still have the ledge , meaning if you seat an 1 inch back then you have to sit "higher" as the ledge is in the way , so although you can sit further back , it means you have to sit higher.
I have just had a seat re-worked , and have seen first hand the ledge issues and how you can or can't sit in the seat.
best bet but hassle is to relocate your electrics, this would mean you could sit 2 inch's back and around 2-3 inchs lower !
but then one one would make any money selling extended forward controls !
my V-Mod's are ace , because you can adjust the levers and the normally fixed brake lever it feels more than 2 inch's as you don't need to remove your feet to use the lever's.
my stock DX seat now feels like a sofa after messing with sitting postion's !
stock is the only way to go unless you don't mind sitting higher up ?
Billydj 05-01-2009, 08:12 AM I pulled my Sundowner to take a look and I see exactly what you are saying. I think you are right about the comfort once I get da legs fitted so the V-Mods are definately first. I'll explore seat options afterwards. Being tall and big, I DO NOT wanna sit any higher...crap, I'll look like Godzilla riding a Big Wheel if I don't already! Relocating the electrics...forget that!
In Flex's pics (awesome ride by the way and I like those pipes)...it doesn't appear one would be sitting higher...or does it?
Sore bum after 1 hour of ridin? Can't deal with that! I get at least 5-6 hours of hemorrhoid free seat time with the Sundowner.
Decisions, decisions...crap.
Thanks!

"I'll look like Godzilla riding a Big Wheel"
WELL SAID Im having the same issue as you guys and I can't figure out which way to go either....
ElrodontheV-Rod 05-21-2009, 08:02 PM The 04 is not like the 07 and newer bikes.
Even though I'm shorter than you guys,I like to stretch out on my A.I took a Badlander and cut the seat myself.I cut the foam so I sit back over an inch and a half further than the factory seat.I shaved the foam real thin on the bottom and cut the hump off for the gas tank lid.My seat is very comfortable.Everyone that sits on my 03 says wow.
I ask people to sit on it just to hear them say it.Not one person hasn't said wow.
I had the seat off playing around one day. When I pulled the bike in,I threw a towel over the bike. When I sat on the towel to pull it in I said wow, this is what I'm looking for and proceeded to hack and cut on a cheap stock takeoff for a mock up.Then I did the Badlander.
I left the front of the foam intact and kept scooping down and back.Back gave me the stretch and down lets my tail bone remain straight instead of curling it up.
Take the seat off of the 04 and sit on the bike.Buy a $20 takeoff and start hacking.
On the 07 and newer bikes,Harley makes an RR seat that is narrow in the thigh area.
I have this seat on my 07 and it is perfect w the drag bars.
