stanstuf 12-06-2003, 10:24 AM I only have 15 miles on my new 2003 v rod and am hearing a squak and a squeek from my belt at low speed .The left side of the belt is tight against the pulley lip and there is a slight gap on the right side where I can see the pulley teeth. Any suggestions:confused: Max 12-06-2003, 10:47 AM stanstuf belt alignment is critical for stopping noise from the belt. While the camber adjustment that HD uses is fair it is not the most precise. Sometimes moving the rear tire slightly one way or the other with the adjusters is needed to get good belt alignment. You can use some belt lubes but I hate to ever recommend them because of the long term effect on the belt. Max Greg687 12-08-2003, 12:16 PM When I picked up my bike new, I had the same squeek. The shop guys said it was the cush drive bumpers, and they shot some silicone in 'em. That helped, but that evening we took her out for about a 40 mile ride, and the squeek went away. Never came back, and mine has the same gap you describe. I am still uncertain, I would go with a little chalk to see if there is rubbing going on and after that is rectified , get louder pipes so you do not hear anything ! JMO BobT BobT 12-14-2003, 09:03 PM Here is an update /edit to my previous post. We had a snowstorm here and I have been just veggin out after shoveling. Watching a couple of my old new bike videos(I have 6) and the 1996 one says never use anything one your drive belt. Wash it with light detergent and warm water. No dressings of any sort. Both tension and alignment are critical to performance and lack of noise. So that is the company angle. dealers are not the company. That is more of my 2 cents worth. Good luck. BobT mjw930 12-14-2003, 11:38 PM 2 local dealers here agree that the factory belt tension adjustment is too high. They suggest ~12mm @ 10 lbs (roughly 1/2 inch). Any looser and the belt slaps the bottom guard and any more an it howls. I've tried tension, alignment and silicone and the tension adjustment has the bigest effect on noise. | ||
