What racing wheels are folks using out there - how much weight was saved - what was the cost - and how have you liked your setup?

Kevin,

I'm running black Buell 3 spoke wheels off a 2000 M2. The main reason I used them was because I already had them. The front is 17". Sandy Kosman has a kit to adapt to chain drive. The front kit was pretty simple; axle, spacers, rotor, and I was able to use the stock caliper. I also replaced the master cylinder with a stock unit for a single rotor and caliper (different bore size). The rear kit included the sprockets, rotor, Brembo caliper, mounting bracket, spacers, and adjusters. In the end we had to machine another spacer to line everything up correctly. It looks great but Kosman's stuff is somewhat pricey, about $1600 for everything. Also the chain drive is working out real well.

Running a 17" Rear - Buell rim (early PM model) with 210 metzler. Removed cush drive and drilled std 72tooth pulley for solid mounting. Std. belt 28 tooth front pulley. Looking to go 26 tooth pulley for the front if anyone has one available.

Front 19" custom spoked - I used an early model twin flange sporty/dyna alloy hub. Bored out center made new internal wheel spacer and installed std. V-Rod front bearings. Used an Akront rim (Alloy, chromed) and used S/S spokes. Made up new spacers to mount HD Thundstar full floating discs. I will be adding Brembo callipers soon and adding half disc to wheel to assist in staging.

Custom made 1" Hollow Axles front and rear. I have been running this set-up for nearly 3 years now with no problems. Not sure of the weight but much lighter setup than stock wheels and better handling in the wind.

I have a complete PRO-LITE front end if anyone is interested. (Racing Use Only) -
Air Assisted Dampening
Carbon Fibre Single Disc Brake
19" Rim, Alloy Hub
35mm Forks
7/8" Dargbars & Risers
Half Disc for Staging
Towing Mount
This complete frontend can be picked up easily with one hand, it is very light but would need adapting for V-Rod.

Kaz, no worries mate. I will give Sam a call. Does he have an email?
I did get in contact with Gill, he ended up ringing me back after leaving a message. He gave me an email address and I sent one off to him but no reply. (I may have got the address mixed up.) If you could, PM me his email address and I will try again.
Thanks mate...

geeeeez ,, spacers : stack up washers till it fits ,, give the measurement to your buddy with a lathe ,,, shove a piece of bar stock thru and measure (see your bud with the lathe) ,, the factory caliper mount matches all ,,, lets not make mountains out of mole hills ,,, Sandy is a top notch chassis man , but we dont need to make him rich because we all forgot how to "think" ,,,,,,, spacers = a stack of washers cut from a chunk of Al pipe

We use Buell XB wheels with their front rotor and caliper rear we use buell blast rotor anb xb caliper and chain sprocket. These are very light and not very expensive. We have a set of PMFR three spoke that we used to run and they are very good wheels but the xb set up is alot lighter.
