What is the average amount of oil the VRSCD takes at an oil change?

5 QTs is the latest spec, from the MoCo. My '04 book say's 4 1/2.

Most will be just fine pouring 5 qts in.

Remember you must check the oil with the bike 100% upright and warm. Any angle at all will effect your dipstick reading.

Seems like a lotta oil. Came out of work today heard a small pop. It was my oil cap. Now the motors smoking and Im covered in iol. What the heck is going on. I innitially thought I had too much oil in it. I do a check every day i leave for work and the oil cap is something i always check.

For my '07, a new filter and five quarts brings the hot oil level right to the top of the cross hatch on the dip stick.

I have run 5 qts in my 02 since the second oil change, the dealer did the first and tried to strip the drain plug so I don't know how much they put in.

My 07 manual says 4.5 quarts with a filter but the dipstick says 5 quarts.

The answer is 5 quarts. Is it a stock dipstick or an aftermarket temp reading dipstick? I cant see the stock threaded dipstick "popping out".

Agree. My change with a new filter needed 5 quarts to get the level at the top of the hatch on level.

I cannot see how any V-Rod dipstick would pop out unless it was loose. They all thread in.

:them: I assume the threads are still fine? Oh, and 5 quarts.

What are the sign that i should be aware if i over filled my engine oil? i used Amsoil and Amsoil filter, 5 quarts. Am using HD after market dipstick and seems the reading is over the Full level. should i need to drain half of the quart or leave it?

What procedure are you using for checking the level? Is the bike 100% straight up or on the side stand?

Is that the case on an 08 DX? My dealer says to check it on the kick stand.

Yes, all Revolution should be checked straight up. Look in your owners manual and it will tell you. You may also want to bring a copy of it to your dealer to show them.

I told my previous dealer that my oil was low, they didnt add 5qrts
my previous dealer said i was wrong and showed me the oil level by checking on the kickstand. i made a remark and he told me i was wrong, that dealer wont do any work on my bike ever again!

2712, your "Ex" dealer is an idiot! Just another reason to spend the bucks and get the manual so you know exactly what needs to be done on our bikes.

Most dealers wouldn't recognise a V-Rod if it fell on them.

I assumed the dealer would know the manual inside out but i've read the manual and its to be checked upright. Would you need stands for that or just hold ithe bike steady with one hand while checking oil with the other?

Once you know it's full on the level, set the bike on the side stand and mark the stick where the oil shows. That is now your full mark when on the side stand. Very handy before your next ride or at the filling station.

I put 5 qts in my 03 there is a old thread here from a guy that works for harley that says only reson that the manual says put in 4 1/2 qts so you will not overfill it.That will read a 1/2qt under the full line. You put 5 qts in that will put right on the full line:D

I agree 5 quarts for my 05se with oil filter and at full mark. make sure oil cap is tighten down before running and oil plug is in tight and oil filter on hand tight . Run bike for a few minutes and check for leaks and take a test drive for around the blocks a few times and it no leaks ,you ready to ride .
